What causes a driveway gate chain to snap?
Extensive wearing is the most common cause of the problem. It is much less likely for the chain to get seriously damaged all of a sudden and break because of this. There are ways to slow down the rate of wearing and to give the chain a longer useful life. Lubricate it annually and readjust it, if needed, to ensure that it’s neither too tight nor too loose.
What are the signs of worn swing gate hinges?
If your gate makes sharp squeaky sounds during opening and closing and they don’t stop with lubrication, then you most certainly have worn hinges which require replacement as soon as possible. Operating the gate will also become more difficult. Both opening and closing are slowed down. If you have pin hinges, the gate may even begin to sink when they are worn.
